Unclaimed Property Due Diligence Letters
The University of Minnesota is required to notify people of unclaimed property (uncashed checks/unclaimed funds) when that property is scheduled to be transferred to the custody of the State Treasurer (or equivalent) for the state listed in the property owner’s last known address.
Physical letters are sent to property owners via the United States Postal Service at the last address on record with the University.
Funds may be claimed by following the process in the letter and responses are not accepted in-person.
All requested documentation must be received to process reissuance of payment.
It may take up to eight weeks after the response deadline to process payment reissuances and payments are not available for in-person pick up.
If a response to the letter is not received by the deadline listed in the letter, the funds are transferred to the custody of the state listed in the property owner’s last known address, and the property owner must follow that state’s process for claiming the funds.
The email address for the University’s unclaimed property process is [email protected].
Concerns about the validity of the letter may be addressed to [email protected].
