FSUN Announcement

The Financial Systems User Network (FSUN) is an organization comprised of over 700 University employees who have finance-related job duties.

New opportunity and a new partnership

The Financial Systems User Network (FSUN) has assisted in enhancing the financial systems environment of the University of Minnesota for more than 20 years. FSUN focuses on the needs of those using the financial system and related procedures. This organization has a long history of providing excellent and vital networking opportunities for information exchange and support for people working in finance areas throughout the U.

You may be aware of another important group in the University's finance community called the Financial Management Advisory Committee (FinMAC). FinMAC is a standing committee formed by the University Chief Financial Officer to provide recommendations and structured feedback from the financial community to the CFO and the management team reporting to the CFO. The committee provides regular input on all aspects of financial management. FinMAC focuses on all levels of financial operations, but is especially valuable in representing the "big picture" needs of colleges and administrative units.

In the spirit of improved service to and representation of the finance community across the University, the FSUN Board of Directors and the committee members of the FinMAC have agreed to join forces and move forward together as one entity. Beginning July 1, 2016, FSUN will be guided by a subcommittee of FinMAC focused on continuing the long history of success in representing the perspective of the "end user" of financial policies, procedures, and systems.

The current FSUN Board of Directors' terms were extended through the end of June to help arrange this partnership. We are now seeking volunteers for participation on the new FinMAC subcommittee, which will be made up of five to eight people appointed for a term of service. If you are interested in participating, please complete this application form (docx) and submit it to for consideration.

What does this new partnership mean for you, the FSUN member?

  • Nothing is changing for the General Membership of FSUN.

  • There will be ample opportunity to participate in activities related to financial process and system development and direction-setting via the new structure. We hope it will prove a better opportunity--combining forces and speaking with one voice.

  • The new subcommittee will continue to plan activities and events of interest and benefit to the entire finance community, focused on those actually doing the work.

  • There will still be opportunities for networking among the membership.

  • There will be a renewed focus on people who actually use the system and any impact various decisions or efforts might have.

Statement regarding the new partnership between FSUN and FinMAC

Dear Finance colleagues,

I want to acknowledge and congratulate the Financial Systems User Network (FSUN) and the Financial Management Advisory Committee (FinMAC) for their recent votes to form a new partnership. The arrangement renews and refreshes a decades-old partnership between finance leaders across the University and individuals with finance-related job responsibilities. It will streamline and strengthen the voice of the finance community in our consultative processes during the development of financial policies, procedures, and systems.

I would like to extend a special thank you to the many people who have served on the FSUN Board over the last 20 years, making FSUN the successful and widely recognized group it is today.

Mike Volna
Associate Vice President, Finance & Controller

Thank you for your continued participation in this organization,

FSUN Board of Directors
